The Project Development team is responsible for creating a hypothetical on-shore wind farm, located in the state of Oregon. In developing plans for the site, they have considered several factors such as wind resources, terrain, turbine type and size, foundation types, electrical infrastructure, risk analysis, and financial planning.
The Turbine Design team is tasked with designing, fabricating, and testing a small-scale wind turbine to be used at the CWC competition. This has included designing and building a custom generator, optimized blades, a pitching mechanism and E-brake, a variable load system, nacelle housing, and writing and implementing a control code.
The Cyclone Cowboys have organized several outreach events, including visits to local elementary schools, technology centers, and tabling events, where they engage the community in wind energy activities. The team has also attended industry visits like touring a wind farm just North of Stillwater and learning more about wind-farm development first-hand.
